Residential Care
If you are no longer able to live alone, moving into residential care can be a solution. You are released from running a home that may have become too big or unmanageable. You will receive the care and attention you need, and will not be isolated by your infirmity.
What residential care does setoncare offer?
setoncare runs Seton Hall residential care home for older people in Berwick-upon-Tweed, North Northumberland. It is purpose built and set in its own grounds with lovely views overlooking the River Tweed. Berwick town centre is just half a mile away.
There we offer:
- 42 long term residential places
- 6 short break and respite care beds
- A day care centre with 17 places Monday to Friday, 10 places Saturday and Sunday
A limited number of places are available to residents with dementia.
What is it like to live at Seton Hall?
Moving into residential care is a big decision. You want to be sure to choose the right home, one that suits your needs and where you will be happy. It’s not just about the measurable things, such as standards of care, cleanliness and security. These are very important, but so are a relaxed atmosphere, kind staff and a way of life that is reassuring and supportive.
At Seton Hall we aim to:
- Give each resident high quality care to meet their individual needs
- Provide a secure, homely environment and as normal a lifestyle as possible
- Encourage individuals’ privacy and dignity
- Offer a flexible routine, giving each resident choice in their daily living
- Encourage and maintain contacts with relatives, friends and the community
- Help every resident meet their spiritual, physical and psychological needs
- Fully involve residents in decisions that relate to them
To create a homely, companionable environment, there are four small units at Seton Hall for long term residents, each with its own staff. All residents have their own rooms.
Meals are prepared in Seton Hall’s kitchens by Catering Manager Donatella Tagliarini and her team. They use high quality, fresh produce and offer a choice of menu which changes regularly and reflects seasonal availability of ingredients. Special diets are catered for, and residents can choose to eat in their rooms or in the dining room.
A wide range of recreation and activities is available to all residents, including:
- Movement to music
- Quizzes
- Bingo
- Outings (Seton Hall has its own minibus)
- In-house entertainment
There are also regular visits from the chiropodist, optician, dentist and a local hairdresser. Benji, a specially- trained ‘pat dog’ who comes to see the residents is very popular. And the district nurse, local GP and other professional agencies are close by when needed.
Does Seton Hall only cater for permanent residents?
No. A stay in a care home is not always permanent. Seton Hall also offers short breaks and respite care. You may choose a short stay for a variety of reasons:
- You’re just out of hospital and need to recover before going back home
- To give yourself, your family or your regular carer a break
- To find out how you get on in a care home, before making the decision to move in permanently
Temporary residents enjoy all the services and activities that Seton Hall has to offer.
Seton Hall also has a day care centre in a large, airy room near the main entrance of the building. All the activities and specialist services provided for residents are available to day visitors too. They also have a choice of menu, and hot drinks are available at all times.
