Child Care at our Day Nursery

Working Rite Logo.

We take pride in offering a home from home environment and realise that starting at a nursery is a big step for both parents and child. For this reason we strongly suggest that you have a personal viewing of the nursery prior to any decision about placing your child with us. No appointment is necessary to view the nursery but if you do contact us first we can ensure that one of the managers is available to see you personally.

Premises and Facilities

The nursery is located in Duns, Berwickshire and is laid out over 2 floors. The main door has a locked door entry system which ensures no one is admitted to the building unless they are authorised to do so by a member of staff.

The ground floor has a play area for children under two years of age which is a large and bright room with windows overlooking the garden area. We have a sperate room for the sleep room with a viewing window in the door to allow the children who are sleeping to be monitored easily and without being disturbed.

Little Reivers.

The first floor has a large room used by the children aged 2 – 5 years with windows overlooking the garden area.  This room is easily divided for use of the After School Club.  we also have an additional room upstairs which we use for focused activities such as games and arts and crafts.

At the front of the building we have a paved area, blocked off from the public pavement by high railings and a gate which is kept bolted at all times.

At the rear of building we have a large walled garden for the sole use of the children.  As well as outdoor toys the garden has a small vegetable patch and a herb garden.

The service

The nursery is open Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm and is registered for children from birth to 5 years as well as an after school service for children up to the age of 12 years.

As we are located close to the primary school in Duns we also provide a pick up and drop of service for children. This can be particularly useful for parents whose work hours do not fit exactly with school times.

The nursery is open for 50 weeks of the year closing for only 2 weeks for Christmas holidays.

Our trained qualified staff offer fun filled days which are designed to help your child to learn and devlop at their own pace.  Each child is treated as an individual and receives the personal attention needed so that they feel safe and cared for while with us.

We work with the birth to 3 document, The Curriculum for Excellence, and Child at the Centre guidelines in our daily, weekly and long term planning. These documents help and support us while we provide activities and experiences for the children.

Through the planning we cover a variety of different themes/topics e.g. circus and seasons and throughout these we adapt our displays to incorporate everything the children are learning about.

Parent – Nursery Partnership

We recognise the expertise of parents in the early development of their children and are committed to a two way exchange of information, ideas and knowledge. We believe this approach to be fundamental to the experience of nursery being as enjoyable and easy as possible.

We would always stress that parents are welcome in the nursery at anytime.

Staff

Seton Care believes that its employees are its greatest asset.

Little Reivers.

We employ staff who are highly motivated and caring in order to ensure that we can provide high quality services.

The day to day running of the nursery is the responsibility of two Nursery Managers who each work part of the week as Manager and the rest of the week as Nursery Nurses.

In addition to the managers there is a team of trained and qualified Nursery Nurses and Nursery Assistants to ensure that the children receive the best care possible.

The staff all work towards carefully planned timetables which are geared towards the appropriate age and stage of the children. Activities are monitored and continually evaluated, with each child being treated as an individual.

We welcome volunteers into the nursery to assist with certain activities.
