Job Description - Care Assistant
To carry out physical and personal care tasks for elderly persons who may have physical disabilities and/or mental health problems thereby safeguarding their dignity and privacy and enhancing their self-esteem; to assist in the provision of a stimulating and therapeutic residential and/or day care service; to create a supportive atmosphere where service users can achieve maximum independence.
Key Areas
- Care Services - To attend to personal needs of residents/service users e.g. dressing/undressing, toileting, bathing, feeding, helping to maintain contact with the community and administering medication.
- Care Planning - To assess and prioritise need in order to determine individual care plans. To determine, evaluate and review care plans on a regular basis. To record changes in client need in the care plan.
- Key Worker - To act as a key worker for nominated residents and undertake such tasks relevant to the role and to provide information to the managers/relevant others on the condition of the resident, and any changes that may effect the delivery of care to that individual.
- Hygiene - To undertake the preparation and serving of light meals/snacks, and serving main meals.
- Other Duties - Any other duties commensurate to the role..
Person Specification
Education
- A good general education.
- Evidence of literacy.
- Must be willing and capable to undertake training up to NVQ Level 2 standard.
Work Experience
- Experience of caring for frail or dependant elderly people in residential or day care setting.
- Experience of team working.
Special Skills
- Customer care skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Reliability and good time keeping.
- Awareness of the need to respect privacy, dignity, independence, choice, rights and fulfillment of residents/service users including respect for confidentiality.
- A flexible and co-operative attitude is essential, as the post holder must be prepared to assist and cover for other members of the team.
- Must be willing and capable to undertake further training.
- Able to meet the physical requirements of the post.
